The Georgia Conference of the AME Zion Church is made up of three (3) Districts – Atlanta, Augusta, and Conyers-Winder. All three districts come together quarterly for a Check-Up Meeting to report their ministry work to the members of the Conference. Bishop Kenneth Monroe presides over each Check-Up Meeting. A worship service precedes the meeting.  Faith AME Zion Church hosted the 2nd Check Up Meeting, held April 25th. The following are pictorial highlights.

Fresh Box

Eating right and being physically active aren’t just a “diet” or a “program” — they are keys to a healthy lifestyle. With healthful habits, you may reduce your risk of many chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and certain cancers, and increase your chances for a longer life.

Taking steps towards eating more fruits and veggies helps you and your family be at their best. Because eating fruits and vegetables  may reduce your family’s risk of many diseases, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends eating more fruits and vegetables than any other food group.

Fruits and vegetables can be great sources of the following important nutrients:

* Fiber: Diets rich in dietary fiber have been shown to have a number of beneficial effects, including decreased risk of coronary heart disease.

* Magnesium: Supports normal muscle and nerve function, a steady heart rhythm and a healthy immune system.

* Folate: Healthful diets with adequate folate may reduce a woman’s risk of having a child with a brain or spinal cord defect.

* Potassium: Diets rich in potassium may help to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

* Vitamin A: Keeps eyes and skin healthy and helps protect against infections.

* Vitamin C: Helps heal cuts and wounds and keeps teeth and gums healthy.

Aim for Variety
Every fruit and vegetable has a unique nutritional “fingerprint.” When aiming for good nutrition, aim for variety. All forms of fruits and veggies are healthy options—fresh, frozen, canned, dried, and 100% juice. To get the broadest range of nutrients, all colors are important—red, green, yellow, blue, purple, white and orange.

Faith collects orders and distributes Fresh Boxes monthly.

The box includes:

Head of Lettuce, 3 lbs yellow onions, 2 green peppers, 4 sweet potatoes, 2 zucchini, 1bs carrots, celery bunch, 3 lbs. Apples, 3 lbs oranges, 2 tomatoes, 2 lbs bananas, 5lb of white potatoes
