The women of Faith had a glorious and soul-searching experience during their celebration of Women’s Day in March. The Theme was “Making God’s Mission Our Mission”. Here are a few pictures highlighting the celebration.

Christian Education Department Celebrated Resurrection Day by Focusing on the Children

The Christian Education Department celebrated Resurrection Day with children as its focus. The Department held a Egg Hunt Saturday, April 11 on the church grounds and an Easter Program on Resurrection Sunday, April 12. The Christian Ed Department director is Victoria Meredith. Mother Adams Turns 98 Years Young

Faith celebrated with Mother Georgia Ann Adams Brown in turning 98 years young on June 30, 2009. Faith surprised Mother Adams with dozens of flowers the Sunday before her birthday.

The Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority, Inc. (FACAA) and the Department of Human Resources/Food Nutrition Programs in partnership with faith and community organizations will distribute commodity food from the US Department of Agriculture TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) commodities to Low Income Residents in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County Only. Food will be distributed to residents Saturday April 25, 2009 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Proof of residence is required. This program is available to all eligible recipients regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

The Easter Egg Hunt/Children’s Tea Party will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 1:00 PM.

The Christian Education Department Annual Resurrection Program will be held Sunday, April 12th during the Sunday School hour. Breakfast will be served from 8:00AM-8:45PM and the program will be from 8:45-9:45AM.

On March 21, Lexi Love earned 2nd and 4th place rankings in the 50 and 100 meter dashes. She is a member of Panther Pride Track Team in Douglasville, GA. They are ranked number 12 in the nation for National Elite Youth.

tamaraperkins2Nashville, Tenn. - After dropping a game to Jacksonville State (JSU) the day before, the Tennessee State University softball team split the Saturday doubleheader against the Gamecocks at Tiger Field.

The Tigers (11-13, 3-3 OVC) fell in the first game 7-0, before pulling out the 3-2 win in extra innings. TSU’s win in game two gives JSU their first conference loss of the season.

On the day, TSU batted .222 and were led in hitting by Christy Hill who averaged .500 (3-of-6) at the plate with a double and team-leading two RBIs. Tamara Perkins and Caitlin Eaton both hit 2-of-6 with Perkins tallying a double and home run.

The Gamecocks (17-9, 4-1 OVC) claimed the season series 2-1 hitting .276 in the double header.

In game one, the Gamecocks swept the Tigers scoring seven runs on nine hits commiting one error to claim the 7-0 win. JSU scored one run in the first and second inning before tacking on three more runs in the fifth and two scores in the seventh. The Tigers were slow at bat only hitting 5-of-25 leaving five runners stranded on base. 

Megan Hedrick (3-6) was tagged with the loss giving up four earned runs in four innings pitched registering only two strike outs. JSU’s Karla Pittman pitched the entire game giving up five hits and throwing eight strike outs.

In the second game with the scored tied, Tamara Perkins hit a walk-off home run in the eighth inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 win in extra play. The homer was Perkins’ only hit of the game going 1-of-3.

Caitlin Eaton (7-6) picked up another win, pitching the entire game, letting go seven hits with one earned run while throwing five strike outs. Eaton posted a .875 era in eight innings pitched. Christy Hill hit 2-of-3 (.667) with two RBIs to lead TSU at bat in game two.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Hill’s double to right center scored in Perkins and Jalisa Bradley to give TSU the lead 2-1. 

In the top of the fourth, JSU knotted the game up at 2-2 after a single through the right side scored in the tying RBI. After three scoreless innings, Perkins hit the game winning shot over the left field fence with one out to secure th Tigers’ win.

On deck, the Tigers will head to Memphis, Tenn. to face the University of Memphis in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25th. The first game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start

Georgia Institute of Technology recently featured Faith members, Jerome Miller (Senior) and Freshmen Jhanelle McLeod and Melanie Akwule. Jhanelle and Melanie made their collegiate women’s track debut in January.

Jerome broke the Tech indoor high jump record for the third time February 7, 2009, as the Georgia Tech track & field team posted two first place finishes at the Virginia Tech Elite Invitational Saturday in Blacksburg, VA.
