Power Sunday – May 25, 2014
Presiding Elder, Rev. Jeffrey Tribble, gave a message to the congregation about church health focusing on stroke and Bro. Pauleon Phillips led the “Power Litany.” Both men stood in solidarity with Yolanda King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, who conducted the first National Power Sunday church service in remembrance of her mother, Coretta Scott King, and others who have survived or died of stroke on May 6, 2007 in Atlanta, GA. The FAMEZ Health Ministry rang Bells for Remembrance raising awareness about breast cancer. Survivors Melissa Luck, Shirley Gordon and Joan Polite offered prayers and shared their survival timeline. Women’s Prayer Breakfast – May 17, 2014
Rev. Andrea Jacobs guided the Women of Faith through a riveting prayer service that nourished both body and soul. Aided by prayer warriors Joyce Thomas, Alice T’Ofori-Atta, Mattie Edwards and a youth, the breakfast focused on women’s issues through every age and class. Scriptures read by Toni Reid provided the backdrop until Jacobs,introduced by Women’s Week Chair, Deborah White, clarified common biblical misinterpretations and applauded woman’s everyday struggles.
